Justice and Izzy

Penobscot students Justice and Izzy celebration their graduation from their respective programs of study.  Justice served as Penobscot’s SGA president and completed our Welding program.  He then went on to attend Eastern Maine Community College – one of Penobscot’s valued community partners.  Izzy, who served as Penobscot’s SGA Sargent at Arms, completed the CMA program and earned her High School Diploma while on Center.  She then went on to attend Central Maine Community College.

Jacqueline Garcia

Jacqueline Garcia is currently working as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Jackie completed the Ottumwa Job Corps OTP Healthcare program in partnership with Indian Hills Community College and was able to secure a full-time job training match before graduation.

Katherine Hussey

Looking to overcome challenges she faced during the pandemic, Katherine Hussey enrolled at Loring Job Corps Center on 11/17/2021. After completing Career Preparation, Katherine began training in the Heavy Truck Driving program. During her time on campus, Katherine was a peer mentor, providing leadership and mentorship to new students and fellow Heavy Truck Driving students. She worked to develop her academic skills and served as a peer tutor. Recognized as an outstanding student, Katherine was selected to participate in an all-female panel and was interviewed by the local news station regarding her success in a non-traditional work role. Upon completion of the Job Corps program in February 2023, Katherine went to work at Maine Distributors as a full-time truck driver, carrying daily loads throughout the state of Maine. She has since moved into her own living space, acquired her own transportation and received increases in wages. She attributes her success to her perseverance, hard work, and the supportive staff on center who believed in her, even when she doubted herself.
